You've Signed Up!
Welcome! Here’s everything you need to know about what comes next.
Step 1: Start
You’ve had the 20-minute sample coaching session, you’ve done a wacky exercise or list, and, after witnessing the magic that already happened in 20 minutes, you’ve decided to sign up. Yay! I start clients at the beginning of the following month. For example, if we talk in Nov, you can start anytime starting Dec 1 (if I have availability). We can either meet in person or over video conferencing: Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc. I do phone appts, but I ask that you don’t multi-task.
Step 2: Time Slot
Calls are 45 minutes with a 5- to 10-minute wrap-up (~55 min). For our first session, I build in a 15-minute window for ironing out tech issues. I normally coach Tues, Wed and Thurs between 9am and 3pm, but I do have other slots available. If I’m booked, I can put you on a waitlist for the following month. Let me know within at least a day or two if you need to change an appointment, but I unfortunately will need to bill you for cancellations within 24 hours.
Step 3: Semester Plan
Counterintuitively, creativity often happens best inside structure. I create a structured timeline with each of my clients, either a 3-month quarter or a 4-month semester. You get a bonus month, too! In our final session, I’ll give you a month’s worth of exercises for your coaching notebook (if you’d like) and a deadline for a day in which to follow up with me. I don’t work one month at a time with current clients, but any past clients are welcome to come back for a refresher month (or full quarter or semester).
Step 4: Payment and Availability
Due the 1st of each month. I accept cash, checks or Paypal. For example, if your semester is 2x/month, then you’d owe $350 on the 1st. My Paypal is alex at suitcase to mars (dot) com. I charge the full fee if you cancel within 24 hours. If you need to reschedule, please give me 24-48 hours’ notice. In addition to coaching, I’m still a working writer, editorial consultant and teacher, so I’m extremely busy and accept no more than four clients at a time. Sometimes you will need to be flexible around my travel schedule.
Step 5: Confidentiality and Commitment Everything you say in coaching is confidential. While personal issues arise, I am not a therapist, and may refer you to therapy as a replacement or adjunct to writing coaching. I do send out a very detailed action and reflection plan each meeting, which will have up to six exercises per session. On a scale of 0-10, let me know how much time and energy you’re able to devote to your semester of coaching. I prefer giving about 1-3 hours of exercises and lists per session (I promise, they are ridiculously fun and thought-provoking), but can give less if need be. Be ready to challenge yourself!
